Javelin Strategy and Research says that in 2009, there were 11.1 million victims. This is a huge increase over previous years, specifically a 12.5 percent rise in reported identity theft cases.

1. Visit one of the events. There will be over 150 events throughout the United States. These will include workshops, an opportunity to review one’s own credit reports, and tips on how to reduce the likelihood of identity theft.

4. Those who want to know the level of their personal risk can also take a quiz at these websites to see how well they are taking precautions.
5. In addition, consumers can find daily blogs about Identity Theft from Robert Siciliano, a McAfee Consultant and a nationally recognized expert on identity theft.
